A new book by João Gomes-Pedro, From Tenderness to the Dignity of the Child (Da Ternura Á Dignadade da Criança) was launched at the Fundação Gulbenkian, Lisbon on 26th November 2020.  The book, published by Fundação Gulbenkian, includes papers from almost a half century of Joao’s scholarship.   Joao is Professor Emérito da Universidade de Lisboa and has been Berry Brazelton’s close friend and our friend and colleague and has been a member of the Brazelton Trainer network for over 40 years.

The launch program at the Gulbenkian, conducted in the presence of Joao, his wife Maria-Joao and his family (including his daughter, Joanna, who played a central role in the editing of the book), was organized by Dr. Ana Teresa Brito and the Brazelton Gomes-Pedro Foundation for Babies and Family Sciences.   The five-hour program launch, honouring Joao, included tributes from J. Kevin Nugent, on behalf of the Brazelton Institute network, Joshua Sparrow, Executive Director, Touchpoints Center and Teresa Goldschmidt, Rita Silveira Machado, Pedro Ferro Menezes, Maria Raul Xavier, Nair Azevedo from the Brazelton-Gomes-Pedro Foundation.  There were also tributes from Professor Isabel Soares and Francisca Brandão, while that day included an address by Joao himself.  The day ended with a tribute from Guilherme d’Oliveira Martins, Administrador Executivo da Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian e Presidente do Grande Conselho do Centro Nacional de Cultura.
